RED LIGHT THERAPY (PBMT)

“Light must come from inside. You cannot ask the darkness to leave; you must turn on the light.” - Sogyal Rinpoche

Just as plants need light to grow, light provides functional support for the human body and its many processes.  Red Light Therapy (also known as Photobiomodulation Therapy - “PBMT”) uses red and infrared wavelengths of light that – at the cellular level – may help to:

•  Restore normal mitochondrial function, boosting energy levels

•  Enhance lymphatic function

•  Reduce inflammation

•  Relieve pain and swelling

•  Accelerate wound healing

•  Promote skin rejuvenation (and increase collagen production by as much as 30%)

•  Balance the microbiome, improving gut health and immunity

•  Support your neurological, mental and emotional well-being)

•  Improve eyesight

Effective Red Light Therapy depends on two main parameters, wavelength and intensity.  Optimal therapeutic wavelengths are generally between 600nm to 900nm, regardless of the light source – LED, laser, incandescent, or directly from the sun  (photons are photons).  We are pleased to offer Red Light Therapy via our four panel full-body (72 inch) Biomax 900 Platinum Series System.  The Biomax 900 (an FDA Class II Medical Device) provides six different red and near infrared wavelengths of red and near infra-red light:  630nm, 660nm, 810nm, 830nm and 850nm plus a trace amount of 480nm in the blue region (blue light is terrific for skin conditions), by which the ratio of wavelengths emitted correspond proportionately to what is best absorbed by the body.

Recommended (maximum) session duration is 20 minutes per day, and sessions may be enjoyed between 3 to 5 times per week.

We are currently offering RLT/PBMT as an enhancement to any of our manual therapy sessions.  RLT/PBMT is offered as a complimentary service, if and when needed, to our Post-Op package clients.  Please allow for up to an additional 20 minutes to your scheduled session time.

VISIBLE RED LIGHT EMITTING DIODE PHOTOBIOMODULATION FOR SKIN FIBROSIS: KEY MOLECULAR PATHWAYS

"Visible light phototherapy is an emerging therapeutic modality for treatment of skin fibrosis. There is a growing body of evidence demonstrating that visible red light is capable of modulating key cellular characteristic associated with skin fibrosis."

LOW-LEVEL LASER (LIGHT) THERAPY (LLLT) IN SKIN: STIMULATING, HEALING, RESTORING

"Although the skin is the organ that is naturally exposed to light more than any other organ, it still responds well to red and near-infrared wavelengths. The photons are absorbed by mitochondrial chromophores in skin cells. Consequently electron transport, adenosine triphosphate (ATP) nitric oxide release, blood flow, reactive oxygen species increase and diverse signaling pathways get activated. Stem cells can be activated allowing increased tissue repair and healing. In dermatology, LLLT has beneficial effects on wrinkles, acne scars, hypertrophic scars, and healing of burns. LLLT can reduce UV damage both as a treatment and as a prophylaxis. In pigmentary disorders such as vitiligo, LLLT can increase pigmentation by stimulating melanocyte proliferation and reduce depigmentation by inhibiting autoimmunity. Inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis and acne can also benefit."

EFFICACY OF RED AND NEAR-INFRARED LIGHT TREATMENT IN PATIENT SATISFACTION, REDUCTION OF FINE LINES, WRINKLES, SKIN ROUGHNESS, AND INTRADERMAL COLLAGEN DENSITY INCREASE

"The treated subjects experienced significantly improved skin complexion and skin feeling, profilometrically assessed skin roughness, and ultrasonographically measured collagen density. The blinded clinical evaluation of photographs confirmed significant improvement in the intervention groups compared with the control."

LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY—A CONSERVATIVE APPROACH TO THE BURN SCAR?

"Seventeen out of 19 scars exhibited an improvement after treatment. The average rating on the VSS decreased from 7.10±2.13 to 4.68±2.05 points in the treated areas, whereas the VSS in the control areas decreased from 6.10±2.86 to 5.88±2.72. A correlation between scar duration and improvement through LLLT could be found. No negative effects of LLLT were reported. The present study shows that the 400 mW 670 nm softlaser has a positive, yet sometimes limited effect on burn scars concerning macroscopic appearance, pruritus, and pain."

USE OF LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY IN LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE FOR EDEMA

“LLLT has important anti-inflammatory effects in the initial healing processes: reduction of chemical mediators, cytokines, edema, and migration of inflammatory cells, and increased growth factors, which directly contribute to the tissue rehabilitation process, as well as indirectly through the resolution of the inflammation inherent in the process.”

THE LONG-TERM EFFECTS OF LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY (LLLT) COMBINED WITH COMPLEX DECONGESTIVE THERAPY (CDT) IN THE TREATMENT OF BREAST CANCER LYMPHEDEMA: A DOUBLE-BLIND, RANDOMIZED, PLACEBO-CONTROLLED STUDY

"Use of LLLT in conjunction with CDT may be indicated for longterm management of lymphedema; Either CDT alone or LLLT with CDT may be effective in short term management of lymphedema up to 6 months post treatment; Use of LLLT may have a more significant effect post 6 months after the initiation of treatment."
